2027 Chevrolet Equinox: What’s New, What’s Changing, and What Stays the Same
The 2027 Chevrolet Equinox makes one change that drivers will feel every day: the CVT is gone, and every Equinox now shifts through an 8-speed automatic. Around that sit a handful of smaller updates (a new paint color, Gemini as the built-in voice assistant, new camera options, and a $300 price increase). Chevrolet’s best-selling compact SUV is a refresh rather than a redesign, so if you already know the current Equinox, this guide covers exactly what is different.
2027 Chevy Equinox at a Glance
| Update type | Refresh, not a redesign |
| Engine | 1.5L turbo four-cylinder (175 horsepower, 203 lb.-ft. of torque) |
| Transmission | 8-speed automatic on every model (CVT retired) |
| Trims | LT, ACTIV, and RS |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive on every trim |
| Starting price | $31,295 for the LT with front-wheel drive (includes $1,995 destination) |
What Is New on the 2027 Equinox
An 8-Speed Automatic on Every Model
Front-wheel-drive Equinox models used a continuously variable transmission (CVT) in earlier years, while all-wheel-drive models already had a traditional 8-speed automatic. For 2027, every Equinox gets the 8-speed. Traditional automatics shift through fixed gears, which many drivers find feels more natural under acceleration and when passing on the highway. General Motors is following a wider industry move away from CVTs in compact crossovers, and the Equinox joins its mechanical twin, the GMC Terrain, in making the switch.
Gemini Becomes the Standard Voice Assistant
The Equinox’s Google built-in system now uses Gemini as its standard voice assistant. The infotainment system carries a large 11.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can keep your own apps in front of you or talk to the vehicle instead.
Interior Camera and Rear Camera Washer
The available Safety and Technology Package adds two new items for 2027: an interior camera with a Cabin Glance feature (handy for checking on rear-seat passengers, especially kids) and a rear camera washer that clears road grime off the camera lens. (Wisconsin and Illinois winters make that second one more useful than it sounds.)
A New Color: Autumn Harvest Metallic
Autumn Harvest Metallic is a warm, earth-toned paint that joins the palette for 2027. It replaces Cacti Green.
New Stitching on the RS
The street-inspired RS trim now features exclusive Torch Red stitching across the black seats and dashboard. The blue accent stitching from earlier model years is gone.
What Is Changing From Earlier Model Years
The CVT Is Retired
This is the headline change, and the one that matters most if you were choosing between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive mainly to get the 8-speed. That choice now comes down to traction, not transmission. One tradeoff to know about: reports indicate certain trims become less fuel efficient with the new transmission. Chevrolet’s official fuel economy ratings will give the final numbers (we will add them here when they are confirmed).
Prices Go Up by $300
Chevrolet raised the price of every 2027 Equinox by $300. Reported starting prices (including the $1,995 destination charge) are:
| Trim and drive | Starting price (with destination) |
|---|---|
| LT front-wheel drive | $31,295 |
| LT all-wheel drive | $33,295 |
| ACTIV front-wheel drive | $36,195 |
| ACTIV all-wheel drive | $38,195 |
| RS front-wheel drive | $36,195 |
| RS all-wheel drive | $38,195 |
Pricing shown does not include taxes, title, license, or dealer fees; ask Kunes Hope Chevrolet for current numbers on a specific vehicle.
The Factory Trailering Package Is Gone
Chevrolet removed the Trailering Package from the 2027 order forms and online configurator, so you can no longer get a hitch installed at the factory. If you tow (a small camper, a utility trailer, a couple of jet skis), you can still buy the hitch and four-pin wiring harness separately through a dealership. We are happy to quote that for you.
Cacti Green Is Retired
If you were hoping to order the green, 2026 inventory is your last chance.
What Stays the Same
The engine carries over untouched: a 1.5L turbo four-cylinder making 175 horsepower and 203 lb.-ft. of torque. The lineup is still LT, ACTIV, and RS, each available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (all-wheel drive adds about $2,000 on every trim). The 11.3-inch Google built-in touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto continues, and Chevy Safety Assist remains standard. The rest of the color palette carries over, including Summit White, Sterling Gray Metallic, Mosaic Black Metallic, Lakeshore Blue Metallic, and Radiant Red Tintcoat. Standard GM warranty coverage applies as usual (3 years or 36,000 miles bumper-to-bumper and 5 years or 60,000 miles on the powertrain). Note that this is the gas-powered Equinox; the Equinox EV is a separate vehicle.
2027 Equinox Trims: LT vs. ACTIV vs. RS
Equinox LT
The entry point to the lineup, with the 11.3-inch touchscreen, Google built-in with Gemini, and the standard 8-speed automatic. Choose the LT if you want a well-equipped compact SUV at the lowest price.
Equinox ACTIV
The more rugged-looking trim, priced $4,900 above the LT with front-wheel drive. Choose it if you like a tougher look and want the same all-wheel-drive option for winter roads and gravel.
Equinox RS
The street-inspired, sport-styled trim, now with Torch Red interior stitching. It is priced the same as the ACTIV. Choose it if you want the Equinox with a sharper attitude.

2027 Equinox vs. 2027 Trailblazer
Chevrolet’s new 2027 Trailblazer (due in late spring 2027) sits below the Equinox as a smaller, lower-priced SUV with a 155-horsepower 1.3L turbo engine, a new Z71 trim, and a standard 11.3-inch touchscreen of its own. The Equinox steps up to 175 horsepower and a larger, more family-sized footprint. If you want a small SUV with more room and more power, the Equinox is the pick; if you want the lowest starting price and are happy to wait for spring, look at the Trailblazer. Should You Buy a 2026 Equinox or Wait for the 2027?
Go with the 2027 if you want front-wheel drive and prefer a geared automatic to a CVT, or if the interior camera, rear camera washer, or Autumn Harvest Metallic paint appeal to you. A leftover 2026 can make more sense if you are buying all-wheel drive (it already had the 8-speed, so you gain nothing drivetrain-wise), if a discount beats the $300 price increase, if you want a factory-installed trailering package, or if you want Cacti Green. Either way, we will work through the numbers with you, with no pressure. We make it EASY!
