2027 Chevrolet Suburban: What’s New, What’s Changing, and What Stays the Same
The 2027 Chevrolet Suburban gets a handful of trim and equipment updates and keeps everything that makes it the biggest SUV in Chevrolet’s lineup: up to nine seats, 144.5 cubic feet of maximum cargo space, and a choice of two V8s or a turbo-diesel. This is a light update to a vehicle Chevrolet refreshed for 2025, so there is no redesign to wait for. If you are comparing a 2026 Suburban with a 2027, or deciding between the Suburban and the shorter Tahoe, this guide covers exactly what is different.

What Is New on the 2027 Suburban
High Country Goes 4WD-Only
The range-topping High Country now comes standard with four-wheel drive, and the two-wheel-drive version is gone. That tracks with how most buyers at this price already order (and with how much of the Midwest spends November through March).
The RST Gets More Standard Comfort
Heated and ventilated front seats and four-way power lumbar adjustment are now included on the RST. Both were previously reserved for the Premier and High Country. The RST Capability Package also gains content: it now includes the Max Trailering Package, Magnetic Ride Control, Air Ride Adaptive Suspension on 4WD models, and a power-sliding center console. The Advanced Technology Package can now be added to an RST with the Duramax diesel, which was not possible in 2026.
Black Accent Options on the RST
Black mirror caps and Black nameplates are now available as standalone options on the RST, instead of only as part of the RST Dark Essentials Package. Pick the look you want without buying the whole bundle.
Paint Changes
Chevrolet adjusted the 2027 palette for the Tahoe and Suburban. The reported headline is a new White Sands color (on RST and Z71) replacing Cypress Gray.
What Is Changing From Earlier Model Years
The LS Custom Edition Is Gone
The LS Custom Edition package (a limited-run appearance package introduced for 2026 with 22-inch polished wheels, a Black grille, Black mirror caps, and Black nameplates) is discontinued. The base LS carries on, and the Black accents live on through the RST options above.
Trailering and Technology Packages Are Reshuffled
Chevrolet reorganized several trailering and technology packages, so some combinations are easier to order and a few require prerequisite packages. The rear seat media system no longer includes Bluetooth headphones. Details vary by trim, so check the order guide (or ask us) before you spec a Suburban for towing.

What Stays the Same
The powertrains carry over unchanged. The 5.3L V8 makes 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque, the 6.2L V8 makes 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft., and the 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel makes 305 horsepower and 495 lb.-ft., all with a 10-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard and four-wheel drive is available (standard on Z71). Chevrolet lists up to 728 miles of available EPA-estimated range on a tank of diesel.
Space is the Suburban’s calling card, and it does not change: 41.5 cubic feet behind the third row, 93.8 behind the second, and 144.5 with every row folded. Seating is 8 standard, with a 9-seat layout available on the LS and 7-seat layouts with second-row captain’s chairs on the Premier and High Country. The 17.7-inch touchscreen from the 2025 refresh remains, and Super Cruise driver assistance remains available. Towing capability depends on engine, drivetrain, and equipment, and Chevrolet’s own materials cite figures in the 8,200 to 8,400 pound range; we will confirm the exact rating for the Suburban you want. Standard GM warranty coverage applies as usual (3 years or 36,000 miles bumper-to-bumper and 5 years or 60,000 miles on the powertrain).
2027 Suburban Trims: Which One Fits?
Suburban LS and LT
The LS is the base trim, with the 5.3L V8 and the only available 9-seat layout. The LT adds more comfort and convenience. Choose these if you need the space and towing ability at the lowest price.
Suburban RST
The sport-styled trim, now with heated and ventilated front seats as standard. Choose the RST if you want the look and the comfort without stepping up to Premier.
Suburban Z71
The off-road-minded Suburban, with four-wheel drive standard. Choose it if your weekends involve gravel, snow, or a boat ramp.
Suburban Premier
The upscale trim, with a 7-seat layout and second-row captain’s chairs. Choose it if you want a more luxurious cabin and easier third-row access.
Suburban High Country
The flagship, with the most premium equipment and now standard four-wheel drive. Choose it if you want everything the Suburban offers.
2027 Suburban vs. 2027 Tahoe
The Suburban is the Tahoe’s longer sibling, and both get the same trim and option updates for 2027. The difference is room. Chevrolet’s 2026 Tahoe offers 25.5 cubic feet behind the third row, 72.5 behind the second, and 122.7 maximum, compared with the Suburban’s 41.5, 93.8, and 144.5. That extra length means the Suburban can carry a full load of luggage and a full row of passengers at the same time (the Tahoe asks you to choose). The Tahoe is the better pick if you want an easier-to-park, shorter SUV and rarely use the third row for passengers and cargo together. See what’s new on the 2027 Tahoe.
Should You Buy a 2026 Suburban or Wait for the 2027?
Mechanically, the 2027 is nearly identical to the 2026, so a discounted 2026 can deliver almost everything the 2027 does at a lower price. Wait for the 2027 if you want four-wheel drive standard on a High Country or the RST’s added comfort features. Buy a 2026 if you want a deal (leftover full-size SUVs often come with incentives; ask us what applies today), or if you want a two-wheel-drive High Country or the LS Custom Edition. Either way, we will work through the numbers with you, with no pressure. We make it EASY!
